 ADMINISTRATIVE CODE OF ETHICS

Administrative personnel, as part of the educational leadership of the District, represent the values and views of the District. Their actions, verbal and nonverbal, reflect the attitudes, beliefs and values of the District. Therefore, administrative personnel shall conduct themselves professionally and in a manner fitting to their positions at all times.

Each member of the administration shall follow the code of ethics stated in this policy. Failure to act in accordance with this code of ethics or in a professional manner, in the judgment of the Superintendent and/or Board, shall be grounds for discipline and, possibly, for dismissal.

 

The administrative team member:

1.               Upholds constantly the honor and dignity of the profession in actions and relations with students, colleagues, school board members and the public.

2.               Obeys local, state and national laws; upholds the Constitution of the State of Iowa and the Constitution of the United States of America; and holds to high ethical and moral standards.

3.               Accepts the responsibility to master and to contribute to the growing body of specialized knowledge, concepts, and skills which characterize school administration and related service professions.

4.               Strives to provide the finest possible educational and extra-curricular experiences and opportunities and ancillary services to the members of the District community.

5.               Seeks to preserve and enhance the prestige and status of his/her profession when applying for a position or entering into contractual agreements.

6.               Carries out in good faith the policies duly adopted by the Board of Directors and the regulations of state authorities and of the District and renders professional service.

7.               Conducts professional business in such a way that students and personnel are not exposed to unnecessary embarrassment or disparagement.

8.               Disallows consideration of private gain or personal economic interest to affect the discharge of professional responsibilities.

9.               Recognizes the public schools are the public's business and seeks to keep the public informed about its schools.

10.             Supports and practices the administrative team and management team concept.

11.             Supports consultative practices with students, staff and community members.

12.             Listens and weighs facts and opinions of others in making decisions.

13.             Is free from abuse of alcohol or other drugs.
